The project of Noc Mang is to build a small school with 2-3 classroom and one living room for teacher.
The total building area is 130m2. The roof will be cover by tole sheets, wall be made by woods of tree surrounding, and ground is with terracotta tile. The longevity estimation of the works is around 15 years, among the tropical raining level of over 3500ml per year.
The cost of this project is around AUD 8500 including labor, transportation and material like wood, brick, tiles, cements, sand, rock, steels, tole, etc. The scope of the project can be reduced to 2 classrooms with the smaller fund raising result.
For your information, one room can be studying place for two grades at the same time. This is because the small amount of pupils, because not enough room and because not enough teacher (one teacher can teach two classes at the same time)
THE LOCATION
Tra Don is a small village in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province in the center of Vietnam. Just about 70m from national highway, but it is really a remote area of Vietnam.
The village is at the elevation of 500m above sea level. The mountainous geography with poor traffic access is the biggest challenge for the community to develop further. To access this village it needs around 8 hours on various means of transportation from main highway.
THE NEED OF THE PROJECT
The village has 500 families and the main income is from forestations and rice farms. Animal cultivation is an add-on for their business.
The village is around 75km2 with mountain geography separating family groups. The Tra Don elementary school is then located at various places for accessibility of pupils living close by.
The project Noc Mang is one of various palces of Tra Don elementary school. The project is for 45 pupils from kindergarten to grade 4 and 2 teachers. They have struggled this for years with very poor condition of living and studying.
Teachers are not the local people of the village. They are volunteers from town around national highway. They come with love for children and with hope to create a new generation with knowledge who can change their life of poverty. There should be a different future for the children who now have not enough food and clothes.
Let’s listen to a sharing from a teacher about the wish for a school.
Noc Mang is my place of rapture, of tears, of laughs, and especially of meaning of life. I wish to have better classrooms which are not wet at raining season when we focus on gathering at small corners of the house instead of transferring literacy. It should not be an oven at sunny days. It should not our worry to buy new tole roof as the storms pass by. I wish parents of the children are with better income to have small money amount to buy the good clothes, and good school bags. The raining here makes books wet, and could fade their dream to change their life.
In sum up, the construction of school rooms and teacher living house can help to:
- Encourage students to go to school.
- Give an impact on parents to prioritize studying of their children.
- Create a better living condition for teachers and maintain their love for children.
- Increase literacy class of this province.
- Bring real hope for this poor place.
- Change lives of 50 people.
